Hurricane Survival Guide

It is extremely important to be prepared for a Hurricane if you live in a hurricane prone area like Florida or any of the coastal states such as Louisiana or Texas. It is wise to have an emergency kit on hand as well as read through a Hurricane Preparedness Guide ahead of time. But what should you do if a hurricane strikes in your area? Follow these important tips on what to do and what not to do during a hurricane.

1. STAY INFORMED

a) Watch TV and listen to the radio
b) Visit websites such as National Hurricane Center and the Florida Division of Emergency Management

2. KNOW WHEN TO EVACUATE

It is critical to know exactly if and when you may have to evacuate your home. In the case of an evacuation, have an emergency kit ready and know where you can go to seek shelter.

If a hurricane is expected to hit your area, FEMA suggests you evacuate if:

a) You are advised to evacuate by authorities

b) You live in a mobile home or temporary structure-such shelters are particularly hazardous during hurricanes no matter how well fastened to the ground. It is best to evacuate ahead of time. Don’t take a risk.

c) Read the rest of the THE HURRICANE SURVIVAL GUIDE
